"devil, you Can't Have Me"

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the King of Kings
and the Lord of Lords
He’s the Lion of the tribe of Judah
and the Root and Offspring of David

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the Alpha and Omega
the Bright and Morning Star
He was and is and is to come
the same yesterday, today, and forever

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the Architect, the Builder,
and the Chief Cornerstone
He’s the Good Shepherd and the Slain Lamb
He’s the True Vine and the First Fruit of God

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He was at the Beginning
and, devil, in the end,
you can’t have me…
Jesus Christ is my Best Friend

"Yesbuts"

Yesbuts are clingy creatures
they grab on and
call their friends to do the same

Yesbuts collect
and increase in number
until they weigh you down

Yesbuts don’t get you anywhere
so instead, say “Yes”
and leave the buts behind

"Quench"

My life is a desert
Bitter sands,
  cracked lands
I’m dry, empty,
  parched
My thirst runs deep
Nothing keeps
My thirst runs deep
There is no water here, but

Jesus, You quench!
You offer me living water
Jesus, You quench!
You promise a ne’er-ending supply
Jesus, You quench!

Water from the Rock
is where I’ve placed my stock
You said I’ll never thirst again
Jesus, You quench!

You satisfy in a way that
  nothing else can
Fill me, Lord Jesus
  and I will overflow

Your lovingkindness, Jesus,
  is better than life
Here there is no water, but
  You, Jesus, You satisfy!

Your water is clear
  and cold
  and refreshing,
  moistening my soul
  and strengthening my life
Pour into me, Jesus!
I need you!
You, Jesus, You quench!

I set my heart on You;
let me be Your vessel
Fill me, Lord Jesus
  and I will overflow
You, Jesus, You quench!

Your words are
  medicine to my body
  and water to my bones
Living Water,
Jesus, You quench!

You satisfy my soul
  to a degree unknown
I praise you Lord!
Jesus, You quench!

Battlesong: "Murrain"

Damp mop of hair
Scabbed-over feet—bare
Black eyes beady
Warmth of fat needed
Broken nose pulled off
Cheeks hollow, bones soft
On the floor: bones, blood, spittle

"Roll Of The Dive"

Junkyard disaster
Creeping death
  —creeping
Bubonico
  the bringer of plagues
Bwuhahaha
  rats, fleas, mosquitoes
Poem scribbled on wrinkled napkin
Concert of garage implements
  symphony of tools
Clink clang bink bang
  OUCH!
Prayer of rarity
  steak uncooked
Bent grass
  crooked straw
Sleight of mind
  trickery of thought
A battle of wits
  against one unprepared
Destiny of a twisted fake
Ha ha wee wee
  tangle bop fizz ploof
I’m on a mount of peas!
  Ah!
Breath of death
  strife of life
Cold, shivering, chattering, clattering
  teeth on ice
    OW!
    —L
Universal truth of poetry with three vowels
  frozen flame
