"In Expectation Of Ultrasound"

What will I see?
Boy or girl
What will it be?

Mama and me
want movement to see
so she had for breakfast
eggs, toast, and coffee

"In Honor Of The Last Day Of Finals"

I’ve ridden ‘coasters
I’ve been at sea
I need a new thrill
But what could it be?

I’ll soon be a dad
I’ve trotted the globe
Oh I know!
I’ll go to work wearing a robe!

I woke up next morn
Excited and ‘freshed
Prepped myself
And then got dressed

Coworkers questioned
Passengers just stared
I forgot to tell you
I hadn’t combed my hair

My boss took me aside.
Made me promise, made me swear.
"Please tell me the truth," he begged.
"Are you naked under there?"

The boss of my boss
Showed up with his daughter
Now I’m finished!
Surely headed for slaughter

My effort for a new
Finals tradition
Had instead become
An act of sedition

Too few had applauded
"Enough is enough,"
I said to myself,
"I’m going home…to be in the buff."

Aventyr: "Eldorthâne"

This man, in battle-dress arrayed,
could fight but rather would sing
I speak of Eldorthâne—
the Lyric-King

"Qwester The Jester"

You can call me Q for short
only if I can call you a dork

Q-double U-E-S-T-E-R
And may I ask who you are?

It's a self-inflicted curse
Now quit yer yammerin',
hand over yer purse

Qwester the jester?
No no, don't judge so soon
I'm more suited to
the role of buffoon

I'm not up to the task
Now that you ask
“Don't be a fool”
That's my number one rule

Idle images
Vain visages
What do you worship?
If it’s not God
you’re breaking the Law
but you’re not odd

Commandment number two:
Carved images of...
make them, use them
serve them, do them...
Thou shalt not

For God is jealous
wants you to Himself
and Himself to you

Made of dirt
are you and I
and without God
empty inside

How do you fill?
Wood and stone
or flesh and bone?
What do you place
on only God’s throne?

"Wondering About Wandering"

The great blue yonder
calls to me
beckons me: "Wander"

To take up my staff
and just go,
flee my present, my past

But the Word of God
my red-bound Bible
tells me to stay, that I’m not odd

David felt it too:
to leave and not return
but even he found God true

He’ll be my chul
if I give over my merimna

Praise God praise God praise God
it’s not my staff He gives
but rather His, and also, His rod

Praise the Lord,
the Father of peace
and my Great Comfort!

"devil, you Can't Have Me"

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the King of Kings
and the Lord of Lords
He’s the Lion of the tribe of Judah
and the Root and Offspring of David

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the Alpha and Omega
the Bright and Morning Star
He was and is and is to come
the same yesterday, today, and forever

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He’s the Architect, the Builder,
and the Chief Cornerstone
He’s the Good Shepherd and the Slain Lamb
He’s the True Vine and the First Fruit of God

devil, you can’t have me
I belong to Someone Else
He was at the Beginning
and, devil, in the end,
you can’t have me…
Jesus Christ is my Best Friend

Yesbuts are clingy creatures
they grab on and
call their friends to do the same

Yesbuts collect
and increase in number
until they weigh you down

Yesbuts don’t get you anywhere
so instead, say “Yes”
and leave the buts behind
